The morning after Christmas is never exactly a bright-eyed and bushy-tailed kind of morning for even the most well behaved of party-goers. So this morning I have delved deep into the pages of my new Carine Roitfeld book, drinking in her hair-of-the-dog-like beauty ideals. As someone who prefers not to spend to much time on a makeup routine, Carine’s “not so fresh” aesthetic is perfect.
A friend told me that Roitfeld once said that the perfect looking photoshopped images in magazines do not reflect true beauty to her; instead, beauty is the imperfections that emerge from a busy day of fun and laughter – living life to its full enjoyment. A smudged eye, messy hair, faded lipstick – these are signs of a happy, busy woman. I love that. Because today I am definitely not airbrushed, but I sure am happy.
